What is hardware installation?
Hardware installation is the process of fitting fasteners and functional components directly into a fabricated sheet metal part so it arrives assembly-ready. Instead of shipping loose nuts and screws, the part carries pressed-in fasteners, rivet nuts, studs, inserts, hinges, handles and locks that the customer’s production line can use immediately.
XHX Metal installs hardware as part of the same order as cutting, forming, welding and coating, which keeps hole positions accurate and avoids a second handling stage after finishing.

Why installation-ready parts save money downstream
Every fastener left loose is a step the customer has to perform, and a chance for the wrong nut to be fitted, a thread to be cross-threaded, or a part to be assembled without its lock washer. Pressing hardware during fabrication moves that risk back to the supplier who controls the hole size and the material thickness.
- Fewer loose components to kit, count and store
- Consistent fastener position, batch after batch
- Plated or coated parts arrive ready to assemble
- Shorter customer assembly time and less rework

Hardware we install
Typical hardware for enclosures, cabinets, brackets and panels includes self-clinching nuts and studs, rivet nuts, weld studs, threaded inserts and standoffs, cage nuts, hinges, handles and latches, cam locks, gaskets and cable entry components. Where the customer supplies hardware, we fit it against a sample or drawing so the first article confirms the installation.
For parts that will be powder coated, hardware is normally installed after coating so that the finish is not damaged and threads stay clean.
Design details that help
Hardware installation is controlled by hole size, panel thickness and access. Supplying the fastener part number or a sample is the fastest route. The drawing should also show which side of the panel the hardware sits on, the minimum edge distance, and any hardware that must be removable rather than pressed.
Quality control and inspection
Installed hardware is checked for seating, squareness and thread condition. Where the customer specifies it, we verify push-out or torque values and record the result with the first article inspection so that repeat batches start from an approved reference.
Work with XHX Metal
Send drawings with the hardware specification, material and finish requirements, estimated quantities and assembly notes. XHX Metal will confirm the installation method, review access and tooling, and quote hardware installation together with the fabricated part.
Capability FAQ
Can you supply the hardware as well as install it? Yes. We can source standard press-in fasteners, hinges, locks and handles, or install hardware that you supply or specify.
Does installation happen before or after coating? It depends on the hardware. Pressed fasteners are usually installed after powder coating; weld studs are fitted before finishing.
